Employment and progression research

Personal website: https://yourong666.carrd.co

I learned a lot from this group collaboration. It allowed me to know how I update my CV and my cover letter. And I tried to create my website. Creating a website is hard for me. But I think this is a convince and quick way to share my personal details and portfolio with others. In the future, I will put more content on my website. Then, I also re-edited my showreel and added my FMP project and my daily practice animation.

Employment and progression research

2D Animator :This profession requires interpretation and analysis of the text script given in the project, and the creation of an animation based on character design and character relationships. This profession requires understanding the basic animation production process, being proficient in the movement rules of animation, mastering Anatomy style drawing, and being able to accurately express the emotions of the character. Certain professions require animators to have good composition skills and knowledge of lens language. Some companies hope that 2D animators have knowledge of bone binding or 3D knowledge.

Concept artist: A concept artist is an individual who generates visual designs for items, characters, or areas that do not yet exist. This includes, but is not limited to, film, animation, and, most recently, video game production. This career requires applicants to have a high degree of flexibility and knowledge, as concept art covers many disciplines, such as creatures, environment and weapons. Diverse styles are also the key to becoming a concept art.

My skillset (weak& strength)

In the process of studying animation, I learned some lens language and composition. In every style research in each project, I have been learning styles that I have not tried and combining them with my personal style to develop them. In addition to learning animation knowledge, I have also been constantly developing my concept art skills. In my daily practice, I am not obsessed with one style, I would like to combine the knowledge I learn in animation with them (Picture 3). And I also hope that these painting styles will bring me more work opportunities. For example, during concept art, artists need to adapt to the style and requirements of the studio, so it is particularly important to learn multiple styles. Personally, I think art is a circle, and they are all connected. So why don’t I try to tie them together? Giving myself a broader choice. If I want to become an independent artist or freelance artist in the future, solid and diverse skills are also essential. So, in year 3, I started to let myself try more things that I had never tried before, and I started to try to use 3D skills to build a background (Picture 4.). In the TV series project, I draw in a style that I haven’t used before. And I attempt to design buildings that I’m not good at. At the same time, I also began to explore abstract animation in my daily practice, arranging lines and shapes to demonstrate my current understanding of them (Picture 5.). I hope it will help me design more interesting characters for animation in the future. In addition, their shadow can also be seen in my TV series project background design. Through this Employment and progression research, I think I need to adapt to and learn more software and continue to try areas that I rarely participate in. During my three years of study, I think my biggest problem is that it is difficult to get out of my comfort zone.I am not interested in 3D skills. Although it can bring about a very beautiful world. I also don’t like designing backgrounds because I think they are too complex to draw, and I have to think about the arrangement of a lot of things. But these skills are included in In terms of animation, I feel I am new, and there are too many things that I need to learn in the future. For example, character performance is what I am least good at.

The expressions and reactions of characters are always things that I ignore when creating animations. Animation bone binding is also a big challenge for me.

But I think as a designer, if I always avoid the parts that I am not interested in, I will miss a lot of job opportunities in the future or be unable to qualify for the positions that I am interested in because I have too little experience therefore if I can master many skills, expressing my ideas more freely, which may make it easier for me to work in the future.
